James Sabry, M.D., Ph.D., serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer and is responsible for the company’s business development, alliance management and corporate strategy.

Prior to joining BioMarin in 2024, James spent 14 years at Roche and Genentech, serving most recently as Executive Vice President and Global Head of Roche Partnering. During his tenure at Roche and Genentech, he identified, executed and managed transactions that bolstered the pipelines of both organizations. Earlier in his career, James was President and CEO of Arete Therapeutics, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and served as CEO of Cytokinetics, a company he co-founded. Earlier in his career, he held faculty positions at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Harvard Medical School.

James holds, an M.D. from Queen’s University, completed his residency in neurology at Harvard Medical School, and received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UCSF.

James live in San Francisco with his wife and loves spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid road cyclist and loves reading.
